March 28, 2008 Hello to all current and potential members. We are moving toward the 2008 harrier season that will incorporate the 75th anniversary of our Marlborough Harrier Club. Club Members and their families and all past members are invited to gather on the 26th of April and join in the celebrations marking this unique and very special occasion. 26th April is the day we run the Burton Cup at the Taylor Dam so be sure to mark that run on your calendar. Help us to make it special by participating in a bumper turnout! At a time when sport club membership is declining around the country we are very proud to say our membership remains strong and active. Ours is a healthy club that caters for all ages and all levels. It is not just the running; our members are always willing to help, to support and to participate. So I ask myself... is there something extra we can do to make our strong club even better! I am going to suggest we try this year to say “hello” to more people. I see, in some of the sport clubs I belong to, every season kicks off with a lot of enthusiasm then half way through the season the numbers turning out reduce. What is it that people are NOT getting which contributes to this drift? I ask you all to make the effort to say hello, every Saturday of our 2008 Season to someone you do not know. I am hoping we can all contribute in some way to make this seventy-fifth a really special season. It would be a great tribute to our history to have more people turning up as the season goes on. Making the Club a success is not just for the Committee. We can all make people feel welcome and so I appeal to you ... “Let’s do it!” We hosted the NZ Mountain Running Champs a few years ago and all our members “brought a plate”. You could hear runners from all over saying “My God, there are people here who still bake!!” There was not even a crumb left at the end...Good Season, Good Running, Good Fellowship.... and a “yarn at the club” to follow. Wynnie
