While some travelled to Nelson for the Rabbit Island Rampage, Ron Adams and Cara Shirley contested the Auckland Half Marathon where competitors were greated with calm and sunny conditions. A total of 7,129 finishers completed the 21.1km run.
Ron finished in 1hr 42min 20sec, 603rd overall and 45th (out of 369) in the M45-49 category.
Cara finished in 2hrs 5sec, 2,357th overall and 369th (out of 1,598) in the F00-34 category.
The marathon event doubled as the New Zealand Marathon Championships. Australian Rowan Walker won the full marathon title in a very quick time of 2hrs 24min finishing just ahead of New Zealanders Scott Winton and Tony Payne.

Rabbit Island Rampage 2012
The weather held off for those who competed in the Rabbit Island Rampage on Saturday. A small contingent from the Marlborough Harrier Club competed in the events and some very good times were posted.
In the half marathon run Robbie Barnes showed his class finishing third overall and first in the Masters Men. Robbie’s time of 1hr 22min 53sec was just four minutes slower than Simon Leaning who took overall lines honours. Ryan Smith ran a respectable 1hr 40min 16sec to finish 14th overall and 7th in the Open Mens, just 49 seconds ahead of Jess Barnes who was the first Open Woman home.
Leanne Barnes competed in the 10km walk and was the second woman home finishing in a time of 1hr 17min 16sec. Anna Barnes contested the 5km run and ran a very respectable 27min 08sec to finish 8th overall.
Marlborough Harrier Club AGM 2012
Don’t forget Marlborough Harrier Club Inc AGM Monday 26th November 2012. Please consider giving a bit of your time and be nominated for the Harrier Club Committee. I can assure you it is rewarding and gives you a good insight as to what happens in the background to make events happen. Getting onto the committee is the same as belonging to the Harrier Club. People do not think they are good enough. Utter rubbish. No matter who you are you have something to bring to the Club. Meeting nights are every 4th Monday of the month with the exclusion of October and December each year.
Blenheim Round Table Sportsperson of the Year 2012
Marlborough Harrier Club Inc has nominated Ray Waters for Sportsperson of the Year 2012.
DATE OF EVENT: Monday 19 November 2012.
VENUE: Marlborough Lines Stadium 2000.
COST: $60.00 per person which covers a seated meal and drinks with a yet to be announced guest speaker and announcement of the nominees and winners. Come and support our nominee.
The early bird booking will allow us to have all our Harrier members at the same table and I know Tracey will be asking the Athletics table be sited close by.

National Road Relay Champs 2012
The hills surrounding Upper Moutere were paved with gold last weekend. John Kennedy and Ian Thomas secured gold medals in the National Road Relay Championships representing Athletics Nelson in Masters Men 40+
Their team which included multi-national champion Phil Costley covered the 8-leg 71.7km course in a time of 4 hours 17min and 3sec. just three seconds clear on runners-up Scottish. Papanui finished third a further three minutes back.
The Marlborough 60s Composite team comprising of Rab Rodger, Robbie Barnes, David Bendell, Allister Christie and Ray Waters finished a creditable 19th out of 26 teams. Their combined time was 3 hours 15min and 12sec. for the 5-leg 39.49km course.
The stand-out performer for the team was Robbie who clocked the 11th fastest overall time of 35min 55sec. for the 9.29km second lap. A total of 51 teams took part in the 5-leg course of which other grades included Masters 60+ Men, Junior Men and Junior Women.
